Bearing the cost

I wish she would grow up. She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now, and she'll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age. Her whole idea is to race on to the silliest time of one's life as quick as she can and then stop there as long as she can. - Lewis, "The Last Battle" - about Susan and how silly she is being, saying that Narnia is for children

Veritas

The board of Veritas granted me a position as the Latin teacher there for the next year. I am so excited. I went straight out and borrowed ten books from the OU library on pedagogy and classroom management, classical education, and teaching Latin. I've also gotten ahold of the textbooks for the next year, so I'm already looking through them and trying to formulate lesson plans.
Plus, I'm just loving being in Latin again. I'm having a ball in my class, and I'm super psyched about continuing in the fall and probably next spring. At this point, I'm thinking grad school for classical languages and culture. Maybe in England?

By the sweat of my brow

My parents bought a lake house last month and last weekend I went to NW Arkansas to help them move in and renovate. We stripped of wallpaper, painted, and tiled two bedrooms, which took the whole of the five day weekend of the 4th of July. The weekend after next I head back to tackle the living and dining room floors, which are currently covered in pink shag carpeting (which is the stuff of nightmares and horror flicks).

However, true to Petzinger form, the work always gives way to fun and we took several boat breaks to wakeboard and swim. This is the life! We won't be anywhere near done this summer, so I can't have people over yet. I'm thinking a Week in the Word might be just the ticket.
